After you learn a profession you will have to increase your skill in the profession through practice. The more you use your profession, the more skilled in it you will become, allowing you to create and collect more powerful items. However, you must increase your overall level as well in order to keep increasing your skill in a profession. Your skill in a profession can only be ten times that of your level.
If you wish to learn a second profession, you can unlearn your first profession by drinking the Oblivion Potion that your profession trainer sells. This will cause you to permanently unlearn the profession and lose all skill points that you have earned in it.
You can also learn a second profession without unlearning your first profession by raising your reputation with your faction's Crafters' Guild or Suppliers' Guild. After you reach the highest level of reputation, you will be able to buy a special certificate that will allow you to have up to two professions at once.
Once you have learned your chosen profession and bought your tools, you will need to gather the appropriate reagents before you can begin crafting items. Leatherworkers and tailors use bits of cloth and leather that can be collected by disassemblers, and blacksmiths use bits of metal that can be collected by miners. These materials can be obtained by learning a second profession, or by buying them from other players.
You can then open your crafting interface by right-clicking on your tools. All of your recipes will be displayed in the initial window.
The list of recipes can be further narrowed down through a series of searches such as item level, skill level, the amount of reagents required or its type.
To begin creating the desired item, first go to the Reagents tab of your bag and find the reagents required to make the item. Next, drag them into the crafting interface or simply right-click on them. Then, select the recipe you wish to use and click "Craft".
You will then be presented with a window that displays three paramaters - Complexity, Quality, and Success Rate. Complexity affects your crafted item's level, Quality affects your crafted item's quality, and the Success Rate affects your chance to create a completely worthless item. Together these parameters will determine the outcome of your crafting attempt.
There are six boxes in the window that affect the three parameters. The right column of boxes will increase the values of the parameters and create a positive effect on your item, while the left column of boxes will decrease the values of the parameters and create a negative effect on your item. The goal is to lock in the highest values in all six boxes, with the values in the right column being the most positive and the values in the left column being the least negative.
You can lock in a box's value by simply clicking it, but when you do this the values that have not been locked in will randomly change. If the values are unfavorable, you can re-roll all of the values that have not been locked in by clicking on the die that is at the top right-hand corner of the crafting interface. You will only be able to re-roll the values once per crafting session, but items from the Item Shop will allow you to do it additional times.
When you roll the die you can also prevent the values of certain boxes from changing, allowing you further control over the values of the boxes. You can do this by simply clicking on one of the six symbols that is displayed to the left of the die. The symbol will then become outlined with a yellow border, and the box which corresponds to the symbol will not change when the die is rolled.
In the top right-hand corner of the crafting interface is a preview of the item that will be created if all of the current values in the crafting interface were to be locked in. Once you have locked in the values, the item will be created. In order to retrieve the created item, you can simply right-click on it and it will appear in your bag.
Once you have learned your chosen profession and bought your tools, you will need to gather the appropriate reagents before you can begin crafting items. Alchemists use herbs that can be collected by herbalists. These materials can be obtained by learning a second profession, or by buying them from other players.
You can then open your crafting interface by right-clicking on your tools. You can view a complete list of all of your known recipes by clicking the "Recipes" tab.
To begin creating the desired item, first go to the Reagents tab of your bag and find the reagents that have the properties required to make the item. There can potentially be multiple different combinations of reagents that can be used to make the same potion, due to the fact that each reagent has multiple different properties. Next, drag them into the crafting interface or simply right-click on them. Then click "Boil".
Each reagent will appear at the top of one of the vials in the crafting interface, and when you begin to make a potion some of the reagents' properties will randomly appear in the bottom half of the vials. If the properties are unfavorable, you can partially re-roll them by clicking on the arrows at the top and bottom of the vials. You will only be able to move one arrow once per crafting session, but items from the Item Shop will allow you to do it additional times.
In order to successfully create a potion, you must have all of the required properties present in each vial. In the right-hand side of the crafting interface is a preview of the item that will be created if all of the current properties in the vials were to be chosen. Once you have chosen the properties, the item will be created. In order to retrieve the created item, you can simply right-click on it and it will appear in your bag.
If you have selected mining or herbalism as your profession, you will be able to gather many herbs and precious metals that can be used by alchemists and blacksmiths. Gathering these materials from the world is quite simple. To find gatherable resources, simply look for the nodes that are marked with glowing orbs. Once you are close enough to the nodes you will be given the option to collect them by right-clicking on your gathering tool or by simply using the context action that appears. The best nodes are usually found in the most obscure areas, and nodes do not replenish quickly so it's best to constantly search for new nodes.
If you happen to find resources that are unfavorable, items from the Item Shop can alter the materials obtained from the node. You will see a die in the looting window and clicking it will cause a different item to appear in place of the old one.
If you have selected disassembling as your profession, you will be able to break down leather and cloth pieces of armor into bits of leather and cloth that can be used by leatherworkers and tailors. To disassemble an item, simply right-click on the appropriate disassembling tool and then click on the item you wish to disassemble. The quality of the items received will depend upon the quality of the items that were disassembled.
If you happen to receive resources that are unfavorable, items from the Item Shop can alter the materials obtained from the disassembling process. You will see a die in the looting window and clicking it will cause a different item to appear in place of the old one.
